IPH recently contributed to an Expert Panel overseeing development of an indicator set on children’s wellbeing in the Republic of Ireland which was acknowledged in ‘An Indicator Set for Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures’. This report was published by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs last week.
These indicators were developed to help track progress and inform policy development within the Better Outcomes Brighter Futures National Policy framework for Children and Young People 2014-2020.
This is a comprehensive report on the indicator set. It presents data of relevance to the monitoring of child health and wellbeing as well as to the social determinants of child health, including income, education and social inclusion indicators.
A ‘placeholder’ has been included where no representative data is currently available on important dimensions of child wellbeing – for example in terms of number of households with children where parental drug misuse/harmful alcohol use is a factor.
