CHRODIS PLUS kicked off in Vilnius, Lithuania on September 18th with representation from Ireland by HSE. This kick-off meeting signified the beginning of CHRODIS PLUS, a European Joint Action with the goal of disseminating good practice for reducing chronic disease across European partners.
In CHRODIS 1, IPH and HSE selected examples of good practice in Ireland at a number of levels, including policy and intervention. Stemming from this, EU partner countries have expressed interest in Active School Flag as an example of good practice they wish to implement in their country. So far, Italy has committed to implementing the Active School Flag in the Piedmont region of Italy. Lithuania and Serbia have also expressed interest.
Active School Flag is a whole of school approach intervention which aims to increase levels of physical activity in school children. This settings-based health promotion intervention is widely popular in Ireland, with 626 schools currently flying the Active School Flag.
Running until 2020, IPH and HSE will create partnerships with EU partners and Active School Flag, ensuring evidence-based transferability of this health promoting intervention.
