May 25 and 26 mark An Garda Síochána National Slow Down Day. From 07:00 on Friday 25 to 07:00 Saturday 26, An Garda Síochána will conduct a national speed enforcement operation “Slow Down”. This 24 hour road safety initiative will include deploying 87 newly appointed Road Policing members. In terms of road traffic collisions, the higher the speed of the vehicle(s), the increase in likelihood of a fatality.
The first bulletin of the Northern Ireland Substance Misuse Database (SMD) provides a summary of data on people presenting to services with problem drug and/or alcohol misuse for the period 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017. During this time 4,368 clients presented to services for problem substance misuse and gave consent for their details to be included in the SMD. Some of the key findings are presented below:
