VACANCY: CONSULTANT IN PUBLIC HEALTH

The IPH wishes to recruit a Consultant in Public Health, part-time, who will support IPH in its drive to tackle health inequalities and improve population health cross the island. Secondment arrangements will be considered.

The position will involve:

  • Assessing and advising on public health policy
  • Analysing and strengthening public health intelligence and information 
  • Assessing health needs, health inequalities, health in all policies and identifying areas for action at national and local level.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be on the specialist register for public health with the General Medical Council or specialist register for public health medicine with the Irish Medical Council
  • Hold a primary or postgraduate qualification in medicine
  • Possess a strong commitment to public health principles
  • Fully understand and be committed to addressing the relationships and cultures of organisations that impact on the wider determinants of health.
  • Bring a high level of intellectual rigour and personal credibility to collaborative and inter sectoral work.
  • Possess the diplomatic skills necessary to liaise closely with a broad range of stakeholders.

Terms & Conditions

  • The Employing Authority is the Institute of Public Health in Ireland 
  • Hours of working: this post is being offered on a part-time basis (up to a maximum of 0.6 of a post) for one year. An extension for a second year may be possible but is subject to available funding
  • Remuneration: in the range of £37,116-£60,267 or €43,158-€70,078 depending on experience 
  • Location : Forestview, Belfast, BT8 7ZX or Bishop’s Square, Dublin 2
  • Travel: the post holder will be required to travel throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and should have access to a form of transport that will permit him/her to meet the requirements of the post in full.
