Opening Statement to Joint Oireachtas Justice Committee on Sale of Alcohol Bill

The Institute of Public Health (IPH) today appeared before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice to give evidence on the Sale of Alcohol Bill 2022.

Dr Helen McAvoy, IPH Director of Policy, and Dr Ciara Reynolds, IPH Public Health Development Officer, attended the meeting to provide evidence on this proposed legislation.

The Institute previously submitted evidence to the Department of Justice on the Review of Alcohol Licensing in January 2022 and to the Justice Committee on the Bill in December 2022.

In an opening statement to the Joint Committee on Justice, the Institute made several recommendations, including the possibility of commissioning a Health Impact Assessment to consider the potential health effects of the proposed measures.
