Dublin City Council has started to implement an extension of 30km per hour speed restrictions across Dublin city. These Dublin City Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2016 come into force on 31 March 2017.
Newly designed road signs are being introduced to support the change. Special periodic speed limits will be in place in the vicinity of some schools. Dublin City Council have emphasised the importance of the move in terms of enhanced road safety and creating calmer, safer communities.
IPH was one of 550 consultation responses submitted on the issue last year. IPH was previously supportive of the 20miles per hour policy introduced in Belfast city as part of our programme of work supporting evidence-based policy making to support active travel (link to active travel, healthy lives report here) and safer roads.
