Public health policy centre 2008 workplan

In 2007, achievements of the Public Health Policy Centre included:

  • publishing and promoting an All-Ireland Policy Paper on Fuel Poverty  and Health and early development of an All-Ireland Policy Paper on Inequalities in Child Health;

  • a number of relevant submissions on government policy and strategies North and South;

  • development of the report Understanding Health Inequalities: A Social Determinants Approach;

  • development of a policy scan in partnership with the Cross-Border Women’s Health Network for the north west;

  • contribution to an EU-funded project to develop a health inequalities strategy for the Cooperation and Working Together (CAWT) area, with a focus on children’s health in the border counties.

In 2008, the Public Health Policy Centre will be working in the following areas:

  • publishing and promoting the All-Ireland Policy Paper on Inequalities in Child Health;

  • responding to relevant submissions of government policy and strategies North and South;

  • publishing and promoting the report Understanding Health Inequalities: A Social Determinants Approach in partnership with the Combat Poverty agency;

  • development of a Cross-Border Plan for Social Inclusion and Health with the Cross-Border Women’s Health Network and Derry Well Woman;

  • contribution to the production of a Health Inequalities Profile for the CAWT area and a number of intersectoral workshops to develop cross-border working to tackle health inequalities;

  • development of an All-Ireland Report on Tobacco and Health Inequalities in partnership with Ireland’s Research Institute for a Tobacco-Free Society (RIFTFS)
