Benefits of partnerships
Identifying the impacts of multisectoral partnerships, how they can be measured, and what contribution they make to tackling inequalities in health was the focus of a recent research project by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH).
The project was undertaken in collaboration with the Centre for Psycho-Social Studies at the University of the West of England (Bristol UWE). It was funded by the Research and Development Office of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) in Northern Ireland as part of its New Targeting Social Need (TSN) research programme, running from March 2003 to February 2006.
The research findings are presented in the following publications:
- Partnerships: A Literature Review
- Partnerships: The Benefits
- Partnerships: Community Involvement and Perceptions of Health Inequalities
A new evaluation tool was produced as a result of this work that will help those working in partnership across government departments and their agencies, and with the community, voluntary and business sectors and trade unions.
The Partnerships Evaluation Tool (PET) will help in monitoring development, assess emerging benefits and identify areas for further development. Developed as a web-based resource, the PET will be available on www.partnershiptool.ie for any partnership to use to support its own assessment and development, and will be showcased at the event.
