The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) is a partner in the European project DETERMINE, building on its previous involvement in the Closing the Gap project in 2004-2006.

The 2^nd Injury Prevention Conference for the UK and Ireland took place in Cardiff on 24 and 25 September 2009.

This meeting of the Health Analysts’ Special Interest Group took place in April 2008 in The Institute for Public Health's Belfast office.

The inaugural event of the Health Analysts’ Special Interest Group was held in Dublin in March 2008.

Event summary
The South Dublin County Development Board requested a short presentation to develop their understanding of the determinants of health with a view to carrying out health impact assessments in the future.

Presentation summary
Health is determined by many factors outside the reach of the healthcare services. Tools such as Health Impact Assessment can highlight the ways in which non-health projects and policies influence the health of the population as a whole and that of vulnerable populations.
 

Event summary
The HIA Forum provides an opportunity for those interested in progressing HIA to meet, discuss experiences and learn of new developments relevant to HIA. This meeting focused on how HIA can be used to improve mental health and wellbeing.

National health information can hide important differences in health at local level.  There is currently no system for monitoring local health and social wellbeing across the island of Ireland. To support development of an agreed suite of indicators, INIsPHO has created an all-Ireland dataset entitled the All-Ireland Health and Wellbeing Dataset (AIHWDS).  This resource will enable users will now be able to compare a wide range of indicators that will allow them to obtain a more comprehensive profile of a particular area.
