The South Dublin County Development Board requested a short presentation to develop their understanding of the determinants of health with a view to carrying out health impact assessments in the future.
Presentation summary
Health is determined by many factors outside the reach of the healthcare services. Tools such as Health Impact Assessment can highlight the ways in which non-health projects and policies influence the health of the population as a whole and that of vulnerable populations.

National health information can hide important differences in health at local level. There is currently no system for monitoring local health and social wellbeing across the island of Ireland. To support development of an agreed suite of indicators, INIsPHO has created an all-Ireland dataset entitled the All-Ireland Health and Wellbeing Dataset (AIHWDS). This resource will enable users will now be able to compare a wide range of indicators that will allow them to obtain a more comprehensive profile of a particular area.
